If I might add.
One thing I got out of the brain/mind discourse in the book (my perception) is the idea that our brain may also function as a blockage of data, information or even energy between our physical being and the world of spirit or God or whatever is there.
I see myself as an entity in the process of spiritual development, growth or enlightemnent. On a scale of electrical power I may be likened to a bulb that has the capacity of 40 watts or one capable of resonating at 2000 hertz. As I am blessed with increasing enlightenment by choosing to awaken and involving myself in growth environments my wattage capacity may increase to 60 - 80 - 100 - 120 etc. of light power or 'enlightenment' My resonance may go from 2000 Hz. to 100,000 (aura or energy field, the numbers are symbolic).
If one subjects the 'as is' 40 watt bulb to higher energy input the bulb is not able to handle the higher capacity and will burn out.
I now perceive from the brain/mind discourse that the brain may well be God's way of protecting us from seeking and incorporating higher energies into our lives before we are able to handle it. The reports of people going insane or in other ways harming themselves from pursuing unsupervised kundelini or black arts practices may be a result of their seeking energy, abilities and knowledge they were not ready or prepared for. Give a three year old child a loaded gun and see what might happen.
Perhaps our brain is like a vast bundle of straws or individual channels each of which carry a specialized segment of spiritually advanced information and energy. In someone like myself a large number of these channels or straws (my brain) might be closed or blocked in order to protect me. In time and with application on my part of studies and spiritual practices these channels become unblocked and one by one I am able to "see" life in a different way. I may begin to see and hear and experience events from another level of what now becomes, to me, to be a broader, growing Reality.
Like every school you will find those who seek to learn the lessons early and will do so by applying themselves at every opportunity, these may be the Saints and Ascended Masters we read of or encounter. Others of us move at much slower paces and take on enlightenment in smaller doses. As you point out, Dr. Hogan, the choices we make are always ours.
I am gratefull for being shown the light I now enjoy and I thank my more advanced Teachers and Spirit Brothers and Sisters for their kindness and Love.
